REFLECTION: GROUP WORK

As part of Unit X, we were required to get into a group of 4 people. Luckily, I was put into a group with Chantelle, Alex and Ellen who I knew would be good team members. As part of the group work we had to make 4 infographics that are focused on media today. I had never heard of this term before so I am more than happy to finish this unit knowing I have learnt something useful. To communicate with each other and discuss ideas, we created a private Facebook group which helped massively. Facebook was a brilliant platform to use because everybody had the app on their phones so if we came up with a clever idea or some research while we was ‘on the go’ we could quickly and easily get in touch with each other. The only disadvantage of having the Facebook group was that we only ended up meeting up in person once.

After attending Noel Mellors lecture, he made it a lot clearer what we were actually required to do. But still, I was a little hesitant taking on a leadership role. I will admit that at first I probably took a step back until I was a bit more confident with the term ‘infographic’, but after we all started to get the ball rolling with ideas, I became much more comfortable. I decided to research with Ellen, and Alex and Chantelle designed.

For the first idea, we decided to make an infographic on viral videos. Me and Ellen then started watching even more YouTube virals and found that the top 3 most popular that came up were 3 cat videos. The finishing product looks really good in my opinion, it is clear and easy to read. I can imagine that whilst the audience would walk past, it is quite eye-catching.

The second idea was after watching the new Spiderman movie. The infographic is based on how popular the film was and how many views/likes it achieved on social media websites such as facebook and twitter. We kept the same consistent roles throughout each idea so that nobody got mixed up.

The Social Media infographic was based on my idea to set it out as an iPhone. It was the first time I took on a little bit of Chantelle’s role. The stats for this were so easy to find as there was so much material on the internet. Even though I understand that apps are extremely popular, the statistics still managed to shock me with how high the numbers were.

For the final infographic, we based it on Jeremy Clarkson as his face is never our of the media- for all the wrong reasons. Jeremy Clarkson has so many controversial quotes so it was hard for me and Ellen to decide which ones to use but we came up with the top 5 eventually. This infographic is more for the comedy side and would definitely be eye catching to most people as it is clear and easy to read.

In conclusion, I am very pleased with the outcome of the four infographics and feel that we worked very well as a team. If we were to repeat the tasks, I would like to have met up in person more often to discuss the ideas face to face.
